Once upon a time I used to write for a little publication known as the Winters Express. While I was there, I ran its social media outlets and created this digital, parody publication known as "The Walnut." Its inspiration coming from renowned publications "The Onion" and the "Babylon Bee." To me, they are hilarious and insightful bits of comedic writing that are more authentic and genuine than any mainstream news outlet out there these days.
Now, I've been thinking A LOT about the blogging aspect of the TAP - which has been nonexistent up until this point. Been thinking about what I want to write about, what people might want to read about, and what people would want to subscribe to.
After feeling more stumped than a chopped down tree, the idea just came to me to continue doing fun, parody articles about Winters and dust off my journalistic writing chops. It isn't my preferred type of writing, but it was fun. I could be creative with how I detailed events, how I tackled different topics, and scratch my creative itch all at the same time. But mixing article style writing (AP style) and fictional writing (yea, that's the stuff)....LORDY! Thar she blows....what an idea. I'm so goddam clever.
SO... my idea is to write a bi weekly publication called the "Wolfskill Rumor." Think of it as a newspaper from a town that is, essentially, a 'Bizarro Winters' that takes place in a parallel universe also in 2024. Except in this reality, Winters is called Wolfskill. Get it? Got it? Good.
Lettuce (let us) continue.
Now that I think about it, another huge inspiration for this blog is an instagram page called 'liveinthefuture.' It's all about this girl who fell into a cyber future and is sending back photos from that time/reality. Every post is a brilliant animated pic from her phone or still shots of whatever she's doing or seeing. It's freaking awesome! With that bit of inspiration, The Wolfskill Rumor shall be my rendition.
Stories will range from a wild combination of sci-fi, fantasy, oddity, darkness, time travel, and whatever else the imagination can cook up. Of course, there will also be stories that touch on contemporary topics in Winters/ Yolo County.
Hope you all enjoy!
